Hearing Aid Styles


Open fitOpen Fit hearing aids sit above the ear. A wire travels down from the hearing aid to an ear piece.  The ear piece is either a custom earmold or soft rubber dome depending on your ear shape and severity of hearing loss.  A newer style, Open fit devices are small and light.

Behind the earBehind the ear (BTE) hearing aids are housed in a curved case that fits neatly and comfortably behind and over your ear.  A custom earmold is made to direct the sound from the hearing aid into your ear and to secure the hearing aid in place.

In the ear (ITE)In the ear (ITE) hearing aids are custom designed to fit directly into your ear, filling most of the visible portion of your ear.   All of the components are housed within a single acrylic shell.

In the canal (ITC)In the canal (ITC) hearing aids are custom designed, smaller in size and fit more deeply into the ear canal than an in the ear device.  Because of their smaller size, they can only be worn by people with mild to severe hearing losses.

Completely in the canal (CIC)Completely in the canal (CIC) hearing aids are also custom designed fitting deep into the ear canal. This style is the smallest device available.

Remote micRemote Mic hearing aids are also custom designed.  The microphone has been moved to the outer ear and is connected to the main body of the hearing aid by a thin transparent tube. The result is virtually invisible hearing aids that offer open-fitting comfort and maximum wind noise suppression.
